During performances Ruud van Ooij (1985) strives to capture the energy of the artist. Focusing on movement, he aims to create abstraction and give the image a raw quality. The noise that thus arises causes a feeling of vulnerability, in beauty as well as in threat. Coincidences play a big role. That is why his photographs are not, or hardly, retouched.
“My aim is to look for tension in the performance of the artist. By zooming in on a still moment you can see things that were not visible at first notice. A world that can be both calm and oppressive.”
The frame with just a captured echo of someone’s identity shows a fragment full of emotion.
